Our client, a prominent provider of commercial, personal, group benefits, and group/individual finance services, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Director to lead their operations in Northern California. 

This role is pivotal in providing strategic direction and leadership to the insurance offices in the region. Our client values diversity and is particularly interested in candidates who can bring a fresh perspective to their predominantly mid-career and older leadership team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision and effective leadership, guiding teams toward achieving business objectives.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, policies, and ethical standards.
  • Develop and execute strategies to expand market presence, increase sales, and drive business growth.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and partnerships.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, clients, insurers, and industry professionals.
  • Address complex client inquiries and negotiate insurance policies, ensuring client satisfaction and retention.
  • Partner with Shared Services to achieve maximum efficiency and success.
  • Develop and manage the agency’s budget, overseeing financial performance and ensuring targets are met.
  • Analyze financial reports, market trends, and performance metrics to make informed decisions for the agency’s financial health.
  • Ensure the agency operates in compliance with insurance regulations, laws, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with leaders to drive growth and meet key objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role within an insurance agency (excluding direct writers, captives, or carriers). Bonus for experience with parent companies overseeing multiple acquisitions and mergers.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills to lead and manage high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools, including AMS 360 and Salesforce.
  • Professional designations supporting knowledge, leadership, and expertise (e.g., CPCU, CIC).
  • Proven success in business development, client relationship management, and achieving financial targets.
  • Experience integrating multiple agencies, leaders, or branch managers post-acquisition, utilizing new networks, services, and cross-selling opportunities.
